Can I have LASIK if I have high blood pressure?
Hi, it’s Dr. Chotiner from Memorial Eye Institute. When I tell people I’m a LASIK surgeon, some of them ask me: “Can I have LASIK if I have high blood pressure?”
You will be pleased to know that having high blood pressure in itself is not a reason to be unsuitable for laser eye surgery.
But when it comes to having surgery, there can be factors relating to high blood pressure that make you an unsuitable candidate.
However, it’s important to note that not all cases are alike. Some people with high blood pressure may need to wait to have LASIK until their condition is more under control. In some rare instances, people with uncontrolled hypertension may need to take medication prior to surgery in order to reduce their risk of complications.
To learn more about LASIK, and whether you’re a suitable candidate, please book online for a free virtual vision assessment on our website today.
