Can I wear a sleep mask after LASIK?
After undergoing LASIK surgery, it can be tempting to start enjoying all the perks that come with having perfect vision. But if you’re an avid sleep mask user, you may be wondering if wearing one after your procedure is safe. The answer is yes, you can wear a sleep mask post-LASIK! As long as you wait enough time for your eyes to initially heal.
Here’s what you need to know about using a sleep mask.
When can I wear a sleep mask?
You should wait at least two weeks before putting any kind of eye cover over your eyes after LASIK surgery. This gives your eyes time to adjust to the procedure and heal properly. If you attempt to wear a sleep mask too soon, you run the risk of damaging your corneas or causing infection due to bacteria buildup under the mask.
What kinds of masks should I use?
When selecting a sleep mask for post-LASIK care, look for masks that are soft and breathable, such as silk or cotton. Avoid synthetic materials like polyester or nylon as these can cause irritation or discomfort around your eyes. Additionally, make sure that the mask does not fit too tightly as this can cause strain on your eyes and result in dryness or redness. You should also avoid sleeping with makeup on, as this could potentially lead to infection or damage during recovery.
Using a sleep mask after LASIK surgery is possible but should only be done after waiting two weeks for optimal safety and comfort levels. Make sure that when selecting one, it is made of soft fabrics such as silk or cotton and fits loosely so as not to cause strain on the delicate area around your eyes while sleeping.
