Does LASIK wear off?
In this video, Dr. Bennett Chotiner discusses if LASIK wears off.
No, the effects of LASIK do not wear off. However, certain normal aging changes inside the eye over time may affect refractive stability. For example, if your eyes had been corrected for distance when you’re younger, when you get into your early or mid-forties, something called presbyopia will occur. As a result, this may cause you to need some help to see up close.
Also, over time, almost everybody develops cataracts to one extent or another. Cataracts can affect the refractive stability following a LASIK procedure. The good news is that cataract surgery can be done after LASIK eye surgery and achieve the kind of refractive results that people expect.
