How LASIK in Harrisburg works – Part 2: The Surgery
This is the second installment in our 3-part series. In Part 1, we gave you an overview of the consultation process for our LASIK treatment. In this post, we’re going to take a more in-depth look at the surgery itself.
1. Numbing, Flap Creation and Reshaping the Cornea
The first thing we will do is numb your eyes with anesthetic drops. Then we will create a small flap in the cornea using our WaveLight FS200 femtosecond laser – this adds a tremendous amount of precision and safety. Once the flap is created, we will use a second laser to reshape your cornea. The entire procedure usually takes less than 30 minutes.
This unprecedented level of control makes LASIK safer and allows more patients to qualify for LASIK.
2. Swift Procedure with Minimal Discomfort and Mild Sedation
After your surgery is complete, we will give you protective eyewear to wear for the next 24 hours. We may also give you a mild sedative to help you relax. Most people experience some discomfort after the surgery, but it is usually minor and can be easily managed with over-the-counter pain medication.
3. Immediate Improvement with Monitoring Progress
Most of our patients see an improvement in their vision immediately after surgery, but it may take a few days for your vision to stabilize. It’s important to follow up with us as scheduled so we can monitor your progress and ensure that everything is healing as it should be.
LASIK surgery is relatively quick and painless, and you will likely see an immediate improvement in their vision afterwards. Don’t forget to come back for Part 3 of our series, where we’ll discuss what to expect during your recovery! If you’d like to find out more, talk to us at a free virtual appointment.
