How LASIK in Harrisburg Works – Part 3: Recovery
In our last blog post, we talked about what to expect on the day of your LASIK procedure. Now it’s time to talk about the next important phase: recovery! Here’s what you need to know about post-LASIK recovery and how to make sure it goes smoothly.
The first few days after LASIK
Immediately after your LASIK procedure, we will give you a protective shield to wear over your eyes. It’s important that you wear this shield at all times for the first week, even when you’re sleeping. You should also avoid rubbing your eyes.
For the first day or two after surgery, your eyes may feel dry and irritated. This is normal! Your eyes are still adjusting to the new conditions and will produce more tears to compensate. To help with the irritation, use artificial tears as needed. You should also take things easy and avoid strenuous activity or excessive screen time.
The first week after LASIK
Within a few days, most people feel well enough to return to their normal activities. However, it’s still important to take things easy and avoid any activities that could put undue stress on your eyes (like swimming or contact sports). You should also continue using artificial tears as needed and refrain from wearing makeup or using lotions around your eyes.
Beyond the first week
After about a week, most people are cleared to return to their regular routines—including wearing makeup and using lotions! However, you should still take care of your eyes by avoiding extended periods of screen time and using artificial tears if they start feeling dry again. Additionally, you attend your follow-up appointments so we can make sure your vision is still on track.
LASIK surgery is a safe and effective way to improve your vision, but it’s important for you to understand the recovery process before undergoing treatment. By taking things slow and following our instructions, you can ensure a smooth recovery with minimal complications. To find out more about getting LASIK with us, book a free virtual appointment here.
