Is LASIK laser eye surgery worth it?
Hi, it’s Dr. Chotiner from Memorial Eye Institute. When I tell people I’m a LASIK surgeon, some of them ask me: “Is laser eye surgery worth it?”
In short, I’d say YES but then I’m somewhat biased. Take a look at our reasons why below…
LASIK is a procedure that uses a laser to change the shape of the cornea to correct for myopia, hyperopia or astigmatism. Simply stated, it addresses refractive errors by correcting the overall shape of the cornea.
The results in vision that most patients agree following laser eye surgery such as LASIK is better than anything they’ve ever experienced with eyeglasses or contact lenses.
They continue to deliver excellent results with minimal risk of side effects.
From a purely economic perspective, it’s easy to see how buying your vision once is more economical than renting it day after day with either glasses or contact lenses.
Over a lifetime, those costs add up, far outpacing the one-time investment in laser eye surgery.
Unlike the forever cost of contact lenses, vision correction surgery is a one time cost.
If you consider the cost of contact lenses and glasses over time, LASIK is well worth it. The earlier you have LASIK, the more time you’ll have to enjoy great vision without contacts or glasses. LASIK has the highest satisfaction rate of any elective surgery performed.
