What are the do’s and don’ts of going on winter vacation after LASIK?
Hi, it’s Dr. Chotiner from Memorial Eye Institute. When I tell people I’m a LASIK surgeon, some of them ask me: “What are the do’s and don’ts of going on winter vacation after LASIK?”
Usually, air travel is fine after LASIK, but some caution is warranted. Most LASIK patients are cleared to fly during their next-day follow-up appointment.
It’s still not a good idea to keep your eyes open for long stretches of time, so opt for a nap over an in-flight movie or a book.
Be wary also, that cold weather tends to create eye dryness, which makes contact lenses difficult to wear.
Furthermore, many people go skiing during winter and need to wear goggles over their glasses and contacts, whereas having LASIK can prevent such inconveniences, thus making winter ski holidays more carefree and enjoyable.
