What are the LASIK risks?
IN THIS VIDEO, DR BENNETT CHOTINER ANSWERS THE QUESTION, “WHAT ARE THE LASIK RISKS?”
Modern LASIK eye surgery is extremely safe and effective. There are rarely any LASIK complications.
The LASIK procedure is so safe and effective that it’s routinely performed on jet fighter pilots and even astronauts.
There occasionally may be under corrections or overcorrections, which we can easily address with retreatments.
For instance, we can reshape the cornea to assist with blurred vision, loss of vision, double vision, and other vision problems.
At Memorial Eye Institute, our retreatment rate is less than 1%. Most patients do quite well with just the initial procedure.
Occasionally there may be some mild inflammation side effects, but excessive inflammation is rare. Serious infections are also rare.
Some older individuals may experience some dry eye issues in and around the eye center, which we can treat successfully.
Corneal flap disruption and wrinkling are rare as long as LASIK patients follow the post-operative protocols provided by their eye doctor.
