What can cause nearsightedness?
Hi, it’s Dr. Chotiner from Memorial Eye Institute. When I tell people I’m a LASIK surgeon, some of them ask me: “What can cause nearsightedness?”
There are many types of vision problems, but one that affects many is nearsightedness.
This is caused by a refractive error where the eye does not focus correctly.
It can happen when your cornea or lens is too steeply curved, so light focuses prematurely instead of being focused precisely on its intended target – your retina.
This results in blurry vision, particularly for objects at a distance.
