What is 20/20 normal vision?
Hi, it’s Dr. Chotiner from Memorial Eye Institute. When I tell people I’m a LASIK surgeon, some of them ask me: “What is 20/20 normal vision?”
20/20 vision is normal vision acuity (the clarity or sharpness of vision) measured at a distance of 20 feet.
If you have 20/20 vision, you can see clearly at 20 feet, which should normally be seen at a distance.
Someone with perfect vision (20/20) would be able to see the same line of letters from 20 feet away, quite unlike someone with visual impediments. These issues range from difficulties with distance vision and can affect an array of activities from driving to playing sports.
That said, a person can have 20/20 vision for distance and still need glasses for near-range vision.
